Welcome to the ACWECA Website! This is the official website of the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa, (ACWECA).

ACWECA is a regional body comprising National Associations of Sisterhoods (Conference of Women Religious Superiors General) from English speaking countries of Eastern and Central Africa. The Organisation operates on the Vision: “Empowered Consecrated Women for Deeper Evangelization.”

From the original membership of five countries (Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) that met in 1974, the Association has continued to grow. Today ACWECA has a membership of ten (10) National Associations from the countries of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and, Zimbabwe as an Associate Member.

The Plenary Assembly which is held after every three years is the supreme decision making authority of the organisation. It is during an Assembly that the President of the organisation is elected and other important decisions like amending the constitution are taken.

So on this website, you will find key information on ACWECA i.e. who we are, our organisational structure, programmes/activities and news stories on matters of interest and issues related to ACWECA. You will also find profiles of our national associations as well as upcoming events/activities.

The Current President of ACWECA is Sr. Cecilia Njeri, LSOSF, with Sr. Adelina Muguna, NSA as the Vice President, representing the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya, (AOSK). The Secretary General of the Organisation is Sr. Hellen A. Bandiho, STH; Sister of St. Therese of the Child Jesus from Bukoba Dioces, Tanzania.
